Alcohol & Drug Addiction Services
Detoxification

This is the most intensive level of care offered at Shepherd Hill. Medical and nursing staff members supervise the withdrawal process from alcohol and/or other psychoactive substances in a safe and effective manner.


Partial Hospitalization Program

Partial Hospitalization Program focuses on:
  • Overnight component offered
  • Clinical need determines the length of stay at this level of care
  • Stabilization
  • Education on the disease of addiction
  • Self-diagnosis
  • Introduction to 12-step recovery programs
  • Psychiatric assessment
  • Psychiatric consultation and medication management
  • Individual, group and family counseling
  • Theraputic leave
  • Yoga, swimming and a variety of off-site recreational activities focusing on physical health
Family education is offered at the request of patient and family members.

Intensive Outpatient

The Intensive Outpatient Program for substance-use disorders is offered Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon.  Patients live at home while attending treatment.

Medication-assisted Therapy

Shepherd Hill offers outpatient medication-assisted therapies for substance-use disorders.  These include Vivitrol and Suboxone treatments, which have been proven to be effective in helping patients abstain from alcohol and mood-altering drugs with minimal cravings or withdrawal symptoms.

Aftercare

Facilitated aftercare groups are held weekly.

Treatment for Healthcare Professionals
  • 72-hour diagnostic evaluations to rule out addiction or to help the patient with diagnosis and treatment recommendations. This includes:
    • Comprehensive history and physical examination
    • Psychiatric evaluation
    • Psychological testing
    • Addiction assessment
    • Social history
    • Input from family and peers
    • Laboratory evaluation
  • Weekly aftercare groups facilitated by a licensed counselor
  • Help in designing and implementing a work re-entry contract
  • Compliance reports sent to state licensing boards, associations, and agencies involved in a patient’s recovery
